Tour Plan

Itinerary
Pass By: Cape Town Central, Cape Town Central, Western Cape

On the way to Hermanus, about 60 minutes east of Cape Town, you'll see the Hottentots Holland mountain range, which stands about 1000 meters above sea level. These mountains were formed by converging plates over 100 million years ago. As we travel along Sir Lowry's Pass, you'll enjoy beautiful views of this geologically significant Cape Fold Belt mountain range, leading us to the Overberg region of Cape Town.

Pass By: Elgin, Elgin, Overberg District, Western Cape

Elgin is South Africa's largest apple-growing town. Its lush landscapes are a treat for the eyes as we drive through on our way to Hermanus.

Pass By: Houwhoek Pass, Botrivier South Africa

Named by Dutch settlers in the early 1800s who faced difficulties crossing these mountains to escape British rule, Houwhoek Pass offers breathtaking views. You'll also catch a glimpse of Houwhoek Inn, the oldest hotel in South Africa.

Stop At: Hermanus, Hermanus, Overstrand, Overberg District, Western Cape

Upon arrival at Hermanus New Harbour, guests will receive a 20-minute safety briefing and an overview of what to expect at sea. Marine biologists will provide detailed information about the whales, including their behavior and why they visit these shores. Our boat, which carries a maximum of 80 people but sails with only 65 for a better experience, often gets close to Southern Right Whales, which are known to approach the boats. Guests can also explore Hermanus town center for shopping or lunch before heading back to Cape Town.

Duration: 3 hours

Pass By: Kleinmond, Kleinmond, Overstrand, Overberg District, Western Cape

We'll continue our journey back to Cape Town along the coast, passing interesting towns like Kleinmond, Pringle Bay, Rooi Els, and Gordon's Bay, which were established as whaling towns before whaling was banned in the 1930s. Guests will be dropped off at their desired location in Cape Town, concluding our eventful day.

Stop At: Stony Point Penguin Colony, Betty's Bay South Africa

On the way back to Cape Town along Route 44 (the Whale Coast Route), we'll visit a large penguin colony in Betty's Bay. Stony Point is one of South Africa's only two mainland penguin colonies, with the other being Boulders Beach near Cape of Good Hope. Stony Point is typically quieter and less crowded than Boulders Beach, making it a great stop.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Hermanus, Hermanus, Overstrand, Overberg District, Western Cape

Hermanus is a charming coastal town about 1 hour east of Cape Town. It's famous for its seafood restaurants and the warm waters where Southern Right Whales breed. If you're interested in seeing more whales after the boat trip, there are excellent coastal walking trails where whales can be spotted from land. Guests can also have lunch at a restaurant of their choice or do some shopping before we head back to Cape Town via the scenic Whale Coast Route.
