Tour Overview
A Big 5 game reserve is a 10,000-hectare protected wildlife area located about 2 hours north of Cape Town. It offers the closest Big 5 wildlife experience for visitors staying in Cape Town. While not a traditional open-range safari, this reserve is dedicated to reintroducing the Big 5 and other wildlife to this region of South Africa, where many species disappeared in the late 1400s.
Opt for our private tour and enjoy exclusive transportation from your accommodation directly to the reserve in your own vehicle. Experience a 2- to 3-hour guided game drive covering roughly half the reserve, giving you the chance to observe a wide range of wildlife in their natural environment. After your game drive, enjoy a buffet lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon swimming or relaxing at your leisure before we return you to your accommodation.
The reserve also offers 5-star accommodations for guests wishing to stay overnight. Additionally, you can take part in a horseback or quad-bike safari experience, or support conservation efforts by volunteering at their rhino foster-care program. Applications can be made directly through the reserve’s official website.

Tour Plan
Pick Up in Cape Town
TOS Travel and Tours will pick you up from your accommodation within a 5km radius of Cape Town in a comfortable vehicle. The pick-up time will be between 8:30 am and 9:00 am to maximize your time at the game reserve. A knowledgeable driver/guide will accompany you during the journey, driving from Cape Town to Aquila Game Reserve via the N1 national route. The travel time is approximately 2 hours, depending on traffic.
Stop at Shell Garage
After a long drive, our first stop will be at a Shell garage where you can get coffee, juice, or beer. You can also buy souvenirs and use the restroom.
Arrive at Aquila Private Game Reserve
Upon arrival at Aquila Game Reserve, you'll be welcomed with a drink (red wine, white wine, or 100% juice). We'll then have lunch, which is included in the tour price (drinks are not included).
Game Drive
Enjoy a game drive in open 4x4 vehicles, exploring the reserve and spotting wildlife in their natural habitat. A game ranger guide will provide insights into the behavior and characteristics of the animals you encounter.
Wildlife Encounters
Aquila is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, and Leopard. You'll have the chance to see these majestic animals up close during the game drive, led by experienced guides.
Return to Shell Garage
On our way back to Cape Town, we'll stop again at the Shell garage for a quick break to grab coffee, juice, or use the restroom.
Drop Off in Cape Town
After a great journey and wonderful experiences, we will drop off all clients at their specific locations in Cape Town.
